Think of your computer screen as a sketch pad where all your creative ideas come together. Now think of the display screen where this production will come to life. What if what goes in the first screen comes out different on the second? Is that chaos, or is it simply the way things are today? No one said revolutions are easy, and the transition from the 4:3 production era to the wide-screen 16:9 (or will it be something else?) era is no exception. This is especially evident in the making and implementation of monitors, both for your computer workstation and for the screen where you eventually present your work. As contributing editor David English reports, the various competing factions in this industry-producers, manufacturers and rental and staging companies-all have different goals where monitors are concerned. Two things seem clear: We will get from here to there, but the road to the wide-screen era will be a bumpy one. Nick Dager
