I was recently privy to see an installation where everything was connected, routed, controlled and displayed via a corporate computer network. And, it worked! The company, and a big one at that, did the facility as a pilot project and brought me in as a consultant (at the recommendation of two of the manufacturers involved as well as the integrator on the project) to the concept and to document the process and outcome. Well, all four of us are on strict NDAs that, after reading it, guarantee that no one would even think about talking about it, but they did allow me to write what I called a "teaser" about the project. It was over a year in the making (not because the networking was hard to do, but because some of the equipment just recently started shipping and the installation included four rooms), but it's working and working amazingly well. It is super-impressive (is that a word?) and as I was watching this in action a few weeks ago, something crossed my mind: AWESOME (I had to throw that word in as everyone says it's my favorite word) and wow, the ProAV dealers better learn networking.
