Is Laptop Lane Going to Become Projector Place?

I had an interesting experience while traveling over the holiday. Prior to last month, I have never had the opportunity to use Laptop Lane - you know, the little business cubicles you can rent at the airport to connect your laptop to a T1 line.

Well, I was thoroughly impressed.

Not only was the attendant working Laptop Lane more than technically capable of handling my application and walking me though any problems I was having, but she also know everything about the company.

Why is that a big deal?

Well, that means that even though the company itself is totally splintered with offices spread out all over the country - in airports no less - she was properly trained in her job, her technology and her company. Impressive.

But, that's not the "interesting" experience I was speaking about when I started writing this.

The interesting experience was that Laptop Lane is now renting projectors!

Now, normally I wouldn't be impressed with that fact, but then I starting thinking about why they would do that and what the advantage of that would be for them or the client. And, then I saw the price - I'll come back tot hat in a minute.

OK, imagine this. If you're a world traveler who often makes presentations, but don't want to be burdened with carrying around a projector when you travel, you rent one, right? Well, yes. For years, business travelers have been renting projectors from hotels and national AV rental houses. It's always worked. It's been reliable. It's a good system. Sure, some people decide to buy them. The projectors are getting smaller and smaller, some even fit in a laptop case.

But, imagine the possibility here. Now you can step off the airplane at your destination and on your way to baggage claim or the rental car counter you can stop by and rent a projector. OK, it doesn't exactly work that way, but I bet if their test is successful it might. You see, the way Laptop Lane does it now is that they recommend a rental company who has offices or who can ship your projector to your destination city. Anywhere. That's the way many AV rental companies do it too.
