Q: What do you believe were the biggest changes in the industry in the last five years? How did they change things and what impact did those changes have?

A: As the digital information age has progressed and been driven by the development of silicon technology, huge amounts of information have been made available through electronic media such as the Internet. However, in order to take advantage of this vast amount of information and transform it into knowledge, a user must be able to view the information. Hence, the display and display technology are in the critical path, and will allow that transformation of information to knowledge. Consequently, more research efforts and dollars are being funneled into display technology than ever before.

Q: What is the state of the market now? What are the propelling forces and what are the barriers to growth?

A: For our core LCD business, our served market is about $5 billion. Displays for cell phones constitute approximately 50% of this market and that segment is currently projected to grow at a rate of 35% per year for the next several years. As the bandwidth becomes available to allow features such as streaming video and anywhere/anytime wireless web access, the need for high quality displays will become even more critical. Our plans call for our company to grow at least as fast as this market.
