Diffusion screen fabrics

Optical properties: Diffusion screens distribute the projected light evenly over a wide horizontal and vertical viewing area. The reflection value (gain) is 1.

Applications: Diffusion screens are appreciated for their versatility. It is a perfect choice for any application which requires a wide viewing angle or where ambient light conditions are controllable.

Optical properties: Higher gain is achieved by using a special coating that reflects light over a smaller viewing area. Light rays projected on the screen will be reflected like in a mirror. Thus light arriving at a certain angle from the left will bounce off the screen at an equal and opposite angle to the right.

Applications: Reflective screen fabrics have been developed for projection applications which require both a wide viewing angle and enhanced gain. Higher gain is welcome if there is a great deal of ambient light or if low output projectors are used. Because of the reflective property, this screen fabric is especially suitable for applications in which the projector is mounted to the ceiling.

Retro-reflective screen fabrics

Optical properties: Retro-reflective screen fabrics are characterised by minuscule glass beads which are impregnated in the projection surface. The result is unequaled brightness with a moderate viewing angle. A retro-reflective screen reflects most of the projected light back to the projector. The angle of incidence is the same as the angle of reflection.

Applications: Retro-reflective screen fabrics are perfectly suited for applications with a limited viewing angle and a great deal of ambient light. Moreover the best result is achieved when the projector is on the same level as the audience, since light rays are bounced back along the exact path they came in on.

Conclusion

The projection screen is an indispensable element in the presentation chain. If you follow these 4 steps, it is easy to determine which screen is right for your situation:

1. Choose your screen type

2. Select the right screen size

3. Determine the format of the screen

4. Choose a screen fabric
