San Francisco, Calif., Feb. 12, 2001 -- Macromedia today announced free extensions for Flash and Dreamweaver for creating and managing Web-based training. The Learning Site Command extension is wizard based, and provides navigational framework, lesson creation, and administration. The extension, designed to conform to industry training standards, can populate applications with learning interactions created with Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, Authorware, or Director. UltraDev developers can access additional functionality such as user login and multi-page collection, display and tracking of quiz results.

The market size for Web-based corporate training worldwide is expected to reach $11.5 billion in 2003, according to International Data Corporation.

There are two Dreamweaver extensions that ensure the content is compliant with leading industry learning standards. Manifest Maker creates an XML manifest file according to IMS specifications that describes all the resources needed to transfer a course to a learning management system. The SCORM RTI extension ensures that developers can quickly add code to Web content so it complies with the ADL Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) standard.

Macromedia Flash Learning Extensions enable developers to create visually rich online learning content in Macromedia Flash 5. The extensions include new learning interaction Smart Clips as well as content and quiz extensions being delivered on the Macromedia Exchange.

"As more organizations rely on online learning, the need for standards to ensure interoperability between content and management systems has become more pressing," says Frank Tansey of the IMS Global Consortium.

The extensions are available for download from the "learning" categories within each product area at http://exchange.macromedia.com/.
