I would ask why no one thought of it sooner -- no doubt someone did. But now someone has gotten it off the ground, so to speak. Westford, Massachusetts-based Captivate Network installed flat-panel screens in some of Chicago's most prestigious office buildings, making the high-rise ride a far more entertaining experience.

Captivate Network, Inc.is a digital media company that delivers content and advertising via wireless technology to elevators. Riders gets to see breaking news, market updates, sports updates, traffic, weather and other information. Chicago office towers include the Sears Tower, Aon Center and Two North Riverside Drive.

Captivate works with Cisco, NEC and Microsoft to design the system. More than
150 towers have been installed in New York City, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco and 450 more (maybe even more by now) are under contract across the country with real estate partners such as Blackstone Real Estate Advisors, L.P., Boston Properties, Crescent Real Estate Equities Company, Equity Office Properties Trust , Reckson Associates Realty Corp., Jack Resnick & Sons, Inc., Shorenstein Company, L.P., TrizecHahn Office Properties, and Vornado Realty Trust. When the network is fully deployed, Captivate will reach 3-4 million people everyday.
