Panasonic Vice President
of Marketing Stuart English told PresentationMaster.com that they'd
have welcomed the chance to show side by side how their products work
compared to the competition.
"We have better technology than our marketshare indicates, so we'd
be happy to shoot it out." he says. "We're disappointed they
won't be there. We'd like to show how good we are against all the vendors
and I don't think you can do that if you only show product in your own
booth."
English says they never considered pulling out, but that last year's
Shoot-Out was a disappointment.
"Clearly last year in Anaheim was a disappointment," he explains.
"The big issue was in the large venue and digital areas, mainly
in the ability to control light spill -- particularly in high contrast
projectors getting washed out. Apparently that was imposed by the Fire
MarshalI. It wasn't an environment that serviced anyone, and it was
a great disappointment because such a big deal had been made about changing
it to improve it. We really believe in the concept of the shootout and
believed the issues were going to be addressed."
Does he believe the issues have been resolved this year?
"We'll find out. We've talked to the organizers and they said they
put their technical committee together and have several recommendations.
Our position is the right approach is to show both -- participate in
the Shoot-Out and show options, accessories and general features in
our booth."
