Bob Hana, vice president and general manager of Visual Systems at NEC Technologies says the industry is evolving and the Projection Shoot-Out no longer helps them get their messages to the marketplace.

"It's been a topic of conversation for several years," he explains. "We observed, as have others, that the industry and purchasing drivers have been evolving. We went through due dilligence of examining our product lines and, as we formulated our Solutions With Vision, it became more apparent we needed to find venues that spoke to our strategy and messages that we needed to get out to the marketplace.

"The changes include how products
go to market, the types of resellers and integrators taking those products to market and the products themselves beginning to diversify and address different segments. The world is more complicated than it was."

As most of those interviewed by PresentationMaster.com, Hana emphasizes his commitment to the ICIA and to the INFOCOMM convention. He says most of what they need to communicate can best be done at the booth on the showfloor.

"The booth gives us a chance to show our people, services and new technologies that can't be properly displayed in the currect Shoot-Out format. It also gives us a chance to talk to the customers. The industry itself is becoming much more about marketing. While technology is part of that marketing mix, there are many more elements going into the success for building and selling and marketing projection and presentation products. It's not simply a technology element any longer, as everyone has observed.

"Now that the technology has shifted and everyone has basic common denominators, you need a showcase that addresses the shifts. Focus, brightness and such are basic common denominators. The newer technologies such as off-axis keystoning, Eco-Modes and others can't be displayed in that venue. What is done in that showroom and the shifts in technology need to match up."

He says he's participated in discussions of the status of the association and the Shoot-Out. "Those kinds of dicsussions will continue and I'm going to contribute to move the direction that best benefits the membership."
