The excitement of baseball's opening day was made even more thrilling as new ballparks were unveiled in Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. Miller Park in Milwaukee has been described as the most technological advanced, esthetically appealing ballpark in the world. Its most unique feature is the only fan-shaped convertible roof in North America. PNC Park in Pittsburgh is one of the most intimate parks with just over 38,000 seats and the first two-deck design to be built since 1953.

Despite their differences, both parks were built with a common goal - improving the fans' enjoyment of the game by getting them closer to the action. To help met this goal, both used SPL Integrated Solutions to integrate and install the sound systems that enhance the experience for their baseball fans.

As new parks have been built around the country, more emphasis has been placed on high-quality, large-scale sound and video systems to maximize the value of the game for the fans. At PNC Park, SPL worked with Wrightson, Johnson, Haddon & Williams, Inc. (WJHW), a design and consulting firm specializing in acoustics, low-voltage electronic systems, and theatrical systems. At Miller Park, SPL partnered with Pelton, Marsh & Kinsella (PMK), an expert in acoustic, theatre, and audio-video design.

In PNC Park, 230 performance speakers from EAW were installed along with over 400 ceiling speaker from Atlas Soundolier. To control the audio for this number of speakers required building and integrating over 27 equipment racks and installing over 177 amplifiers from QSC. In Miller Park, over 760 performance speakers from Community Professional Loudspeakers were installed along with over 500 ceiling speakers from Atlas Soundolier. SPL build and integrated 51 equipment racks and installed over 80 amplifiers from QSC.

Commenting on the two projects, Will Parry, Executive VP with SPL, stated, "We knew that opening two high profile performance projects simultaneously would be a challenge. In the past, we tried to schedule our work so that we opened only one stadium per season. These multi-million dollar projects really stretch the resources of a company. When the Miller Park project slipped a year, we did not have a choice. By carefully expanding our operations and effectively managing the projects, we were able to successfully install state-of-the-art sound systems for both projects on time and show a profit. More impressively, we are also completing a third stadium project at Penn State at the same time."

Chad Gillenwater, President of SPL, added, "As we expanded our facilities and staff to completed these stadium projects, our number one objective was to make sure we remain flexible enough to complete all types of audio and video projects. One week, we will be integrating and testing equipment racks for a stadium or casino and the next week we will be integrating and testing racks for corporate videoconferencing systems." SPL has 14 integration offices nationwide and has installed integrated audio and video systems throughout the country.

From its 14 sales and integration offices, SPL has a national delivery system that is able to integrate and install systems in any state in the country. The company's clients include corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies for integrated multimedia systems and large-screen videoconferencing systems. In addition, it has installed large-scale audio and video systems for professional sports stadium, casinos, theme parks, and large-congregation churches. SPL Integrated Solutions is currently expanding internationally including designing and installing some of the audio and video systems in the Korean national stadium for the 2002 World Cup.
