Remora GT Micro-PC

The Remora GT micro-PC is the 'big brother' of the Remora. Although the GT looks big when compared to the Remora, it is still a little less than 2 pounds, and truly is a Remora on steroids. The Remora loses the integrated touchpad in exchange for an internal 24x CD-ROM or 8x DVD-ROM and a host of other features. The Remora GT gains back the serial and parallel connections missing on the Remora, and also includes an internal 56K modem and integrated 10/100 Ethernet port. Also included are both S-Video and composite video outputs. The Remora GT offers available configurations using an Intel Celeron 700MHz processor or Pentium III 933MHz or 1GHz processor. Memory configurations are available from 64MB to 256MB and hard drive configurations include 10GB to 30GB hard drives. Almost all of the features offered by the Remora are available on the Remora GT.

The GT extends beyond the portability factor, and also makes this computer very suitable for an integrated presentation system such as a boardroom or conference room or specialty environments, such as computer training labs or stock trading floors, where space is a premium.

In our tests, we loaded Microsoft Windows ME and Windows 2000 on both the Remora and Remora GT (the systems are available pre-configured with either operating system). After loading Microsoft Office, we found that both systems ran just as well as an identically configured laptop system. We did not experience any driver issues or other oddities, in fact, the only device that Windows did not recognize on its own were the modem in the Remora GT (it was included on an enclosed CD-ROM).

For mobile 'power presenters', and for dealers that offer rental services or packaged solutions, the Remora is worth a serious look. The Remora GT provides a fresh new product that systems integrators can use in applications that require a dedicated computer. Configurations of the Remora and Remora GT start at $1168 and $1428, respectively.
