Projectors have become hot properties, and I do mean hot. The amount
of thefts is growing in proportion to the popularity of the systems,
and as more projectors are installed in classrooms and meeting facilities,
it's only going to get worse.
SmartKey is a new anti-theft device from Display Devices, Inc. (DDI)
introduced at InfoComm. The device is designed not only for projectors,
but for plasma displays, speakers and teleconferencing equipment as
well.
SmartKey has an
adjustable vibration sensor and a projector removal sensor. When someone
tries to steal the unit, the sensors activate a high output 120db alarm.
Relay terminals allow the system to be interfaced to building security
systems.
Warning labels announce
the presence of an alarm and an LED light shows when the system is armed.
Technicians can disarm the alarm during maintenance.
The unit can be
protected with metal bands or a full steel cage and the mount components
are assembled using Torx Tamper proof hardware and the electronics are
encased by metal in the projector mounting pan.
The mount features
12 gauge steel construction with 20° tilt and pitch. A two inch
pole adds stability and lets the installer get prefabricated cables
to the projector down inside the pole.
