Training Example: Summit Business Consulting Inc.
Summit Business Consulting Inc. has an unusually high need for presentation graphics. Summit develops custom education and training materials as well as facilitates strategic planning, team building, and BEST manufacturing practices. Fletcher Birmingham, the president, told us that they give their own presentations to clients, but they also create training slide shows for clients who then use them in their companies. Consequently, their slide designs had to be effective, but simple enough so that most of their clients could use them in their own companies. Fletcher didn't want to be designing new templates for every new training package for a client. He also wanted some ideas to use over and over again with different training subjects. To address Summit's needs, we created one master background template with varied slide designs throughout. The master background carries the same design theme throughout the presentation.

Because Fletcher was creating presentations that his different clients would present, we created a space for his clients' logos. He needed a space dedicated to training images and a space for the client's logo. He said he would probably download his clients' logos from the Internet, where most of these logos have a white box around them. To make it easy for him, we created "white logo" space on the right of the slide.

The training sessions are divided into three to four concepts. The seminars are created so the client can teach it in the client's company. To make it easier for the trainer to not have to memorize the information, the key concepts are all discussed and shown at the beginning of the class. Then each concept is explained in detail with exercises and discussion questions. Notice the concept icons on the bottom left of several slides. Each icon tells the audience and reminds the presenter which concept is being discussed. Many different icons, images, or photos could be put in this corner to keep reminding the audience which topic is being discussed.

The sample slides from Summit are shown in Figures 4.2 through 4.13 with actual content plugged in.

Figure 4.2: Opening Slide for Summit Consulting: Opening slide. This slide will be used when Summit presents. For the presentations that are given to clients, the first slide will be the client’s business images.

Fig 4.3: Text slide. The bullets and fonts are set up to be a certain size and look.
The titles are Arial Narrow so that they can have long titles.

Fig 4.4: First agenda image. The training program is organized around three agenda points with images. The big image on this slide is reduced and put in the lower left hand corner when that section of the agenda is discussed.
