Company/Project Overview Example: The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy is the largest nonprofit conservation organization in the world. Working locally with businesses, communities, and individuals, The Conservancy has protected more than twelve million acres in the United States and has helped like-minded partner organizations to preserve more than eighty million acres in the Asian Pacific, Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The Conservancy protects the land through directly buying it or helping to create long-term conservation strategies. The Conservancy's decentralized structure, with offices throughout the world, means that everyone really is "doing his or her own presentation creation."

But The Conservancy wanted to free up people's time in creating their slides so they could spend more time working on conservation issues. The organization also wanted to encourage presenters to help the audience connect emotionally with the places The Conservancy saves. Their work has always been based on the best available science. The thought has been that the science in the presentation would sway the audience to commitment. But that doesn't always happen. On the other side of the spectrum were the presentations consisting mostly of gorgeous photos. But showing an hour of gorgeous photos also doesn't convey a clear message. Neither of these approaches alone may motivate an audience to action. The goal is to inspire and emotionally grab the audience, then educate them. With respect to the slides, the prime objective was to have the audience connect emotionally to the places. Clearly, there needed to be a balance between pictures, science, and emotion. So here's what we did. First we began to look at the types of presentations most people gave. The formats we created include company overview and educational presentation.
