SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 14, 2000 - The Web has become, at its least, an extension of the presentation process. Whether you're putting an existing presentation on the Web for future reference to, say, board members who couldn't make the meeting, or if the Web is part of the presentation process, such as the U.S. political conventions, or the 2000 Olympics, you probably want to go with a professional-level development product. Everyone in the communications industries should have professional Web development on their resume anyway, so if you are just setting up a site, you might as well start off right, rather than having to upgrade later.

The two companies competing most fiercely on several professional Web-development fronts are Adobe and Macromedia (so fierce, in fact, that Adobe recently file a patent infringement suit against Macromedia). Macromedia's Dreamweaver is the market leader in authoring, with 70 percent marketshare as of March, 2000. Hoping to make a dent, Adobe began shipping GoLive version 5.0 today.

Adobe says GoLive is tightly integrated with other Adobe design tools, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Ilustrator, Adobe LiveMotion, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, and also provides workflow enhancements for collaborative Web design.

About Adobe GoLive 5.0

Adobe GoLive 5.0 includes more than 100 new features, including "360Code" that enables control over any Web source code. The tight integration of GoLive 5.0 with Photoshop, Illustrator, and LiveMotion streamlines the Web workflow with native support of .psd, .ai and .liv files, while the utilization of the Photoshop imaging engine within GoLive makes the files Web ready. Additionally, GoLive 5.0 offers Web professionals site planning and management tools for designing, producing and maintaining dynamic and compelling sites, enabling workgroup collaboration with WebDAV support.

"With version 5.0 we're empowering professional Web designers with the richest visual design tool to date for improving their development process," said Michael Hopwood, director of Web product management at Adobe.
