Although
they may be weak in slide creation tools, a lot of the worship software
packages incorporate special features not found in PowerPoint. Many churches
maintain nurseries where children are kept during the worship service. When
nursery attendants need to call parents out of the service due to a special
child care need it can be difficult to find the parents in a large congregation.
Some worship software packages solve this problem with a "nursery call box."
It works like this - parents are given a number when they leave their children
with the attendants. Should a need arise to call the parents, the attendants
simply give the number to the software operator. The operator calls up a
small box to appear in the corner of the digital projection screen with
the number displayed. This can be done without interrupting the flow of
the service and can be slipped in even while song lyrics, announcements
or sermon slides are being shown. Other features of worship software packages
may include special databases, planning modules, music composition features
for the worship planners and even third screen teleprompters for the speaker.
Some of the worship software packages are quite sophisticated and include
slide transitions and special effects significantly more powerful than those
found in PowerPoint. Some packages even boast 24 hour a day technical phone
support - including Sunday morning. Most people have a hard time getting
phone support for PowerPoint during weekdays! There is quite a variety in the sophistication and features of the worship software available Some are obviously more powerful than others. Some key on helping leaders prepare for the service and others on special effects. The good news is that many of the packages have either free demos or full featured programs for you to try. Fifteen different worship software packages are listed to the right. You can visit their Web sites to learn about them and decide for yourself.
