Why let your 30-second ad or 20-minute infomercial be confined to the home when you can take your message directly to the venue of purchase? That's the idea behind Vuetopia's new initiative to bring advertisers' messages direct to consumers via ultra-large digital screens in premier shopping malls.

"The Vuetopia advertising network is a new digital advertising medium that has high reach, frequency, and interrupt," said Anil Agarwal, Vuetopia's president and chief executive officer. "By putting the ultra-large digital screens in premier shopping malls, we offer advertisers an exceptional way to access a large number of consumers with extremely attractive demographics."

Vuetopia features a variety of advertising formats, from display ads to television spots. Advertisers can select individual mall sites to customize messages to meet specific geographic and demographic profiles.

The screens are big, really big.

"We've developed screens from 64 to 192 square feet," says Vuetopia's 'Sudi Liu. "And each requirement is different. Some shopping centers for example are atriums, so you have to deal with the same sunlight problems as outdoor displays."

The content is delivered via Internet (except videos are files stored locally to avoid Internet lag). Content is screen-specific and is changed and/or updated via the Internet at night, during the hours when the mall is closed.

"Vuetopia manages the process end to end," says Liu. "We install the screens at the malls, manage the content, and deal with advertisers to build their messages. Then Vuetopia manages the screens from a central operating center we can turn audio up or down, change the play sequence, etc. We do this from a central location or from several regional operation centers."

For now, Vuetopia's electronic advertising medium is designed for advertisers targeting affluent shoppers in the top 20 media markets in the United States.

"Once we establish a presence in the shopping centers," says Liu, "there is the potential to develop the system for mass transit centers such as train or bus stations or airports, and for sporting arenas and convention centers."
